Scout Camping!

Well Ben and I went on a Cub-N-Family camp out this weekend, we had a great time. Left a little late on Friday afternoon after a trip to Wal-Mart for some food and a new outside fireplace. We stayed at Boxwell, a great scouting destination here in Tennessee. Got there on Friday and set up the mess-hall (which is just a screened in tent) then our Webelo leader got started on the fireplace so we could get a fire going. No events planned for Friday night just sitting around the campfire roasting hot dogs and marsh mellows. Man Ben loves hot dogs on a camp out, he loves them anyway but really loves them when we go camping. Must be the fact that he gets to roast them over the fire.
Saturday brought the activities, BB gun shooting, pumpkin painting, playing in a fort, a castle and a pirate ship which is actually on the water! Finished up the day with a hay ride and a little archery. We cooked hobo diners for the evening and had two great cobblers, one apple and one peach. They had a movie called Follow Me Boys! staring Fred MacMurray, Vera Miles and Kurt Russel as one of the boys. This was a great movie and they had it at an outdoor meeting location that sloped nicely so all could see and had a big screen. I heard a Dad in another camp telling someone else that his son ask him what was wrong with the screen, why does it not have any color. It was a black and white film. After the film, back to camp to warm up in front of the fire before going off to bed.
Sunday brought cold temperatures, 45 degrees when we got up in the morning. I brought a cap this time to wear at night and this makes a world of difference on my bald head. We had a wonderful scrambled egg, bacon and beef-n-potatoes breakfast followed by a short church service in our camp then tore it all down.
I love camping, but it was nice to get home and see April and Samantha. They had a great weekend also. They went to a cookout on Saturday and had a really good time. They played games, went on a hayride and sat around a bonfire just as we did.
Part of camping is taking care of your equipment which means make sure it is dried out and packed properly. This meant I basically had to set up camp all over again clean everything, let it dry and pack it all up again.
I did have one bad thing happened though. I was so excited to bring in my dutch oven so April and Samantha could try the apple cobbler. When I opened the oven, to my dismay, the cobbler was gone. Everyone at camp was helping break camp and someone had thrown out my cobbler. This will of course be addressed at the next pack meeting!
'till next time.
